Puno - Taquile
Pick up from the hotel between 06:45 and 07:00 for transfer to Puno’s main port. We board a small boat to the Uros Islands (about 30 minutes) and visit two of the approximately 57 floating islands. On the first island, the guide explains Uros history, religion, customs, and island construction. Locals may invite us into their homes, dress us in traditional clothing, and offer an optional reed raft ride to the second island. We then continue to Taquile Island.
Taquile Island
On arrival at Salakancha port, we hike about 50 minutes, enjoying views of the landscape, local people, and crops. At the top, the local community welcomes us for lunch prepared with local ingredients, including quinoa soup, vegetables, grilled trout, and coca or muña tea. After a short rest at a family home, we visit Molusina, Taquile’s highest point, to see the ceremonial center and enjoy sunset. Dinner and overnight with a local family. (L, D)
Taquile - Puno
We wake early to enjoy sunrise on the island. As it can be cold, we recommend dressing in layers. After breakfast, there is time to walk around Taquile. Around noon, we meet the group for lunch at the main square (on your own). In the afternoon, we descend about 533 steps while enjoying the scenery, then return by boat to Puno, arriving at approximately 17:30. (B)
